As with all technology nowadays, the next significant change is already beginning to happen. As Service Oriented Architectures become the new reality and compliance regimes mature, the role of security as a portion of the enterprise as a whole will become more and more critical.
Ultimately, however, is the requirement for senior executives to understand how everything fits together. In the end, it is not enough to know you've deployed XYZ solution, but that the security regime as a whole in your organization is effective, how it aids in compliance, and how it impacts your business processes.
