This book is intended for anyone interested in creating and managing
a hedge fund. Individuals trading on exchange floors,
within broker-dealers, on bank currency desks, or in mutual funds,
commodity pools, and other hedge funds may have a track record as
a basis for a hedge fund start-up. Organizations such as mutual
funds, insurance companies, and family offices may have the investment
experience and infrastructure to run a hedge fund but need additional
information about how to operate in a levered, unregulated
environment.
Beginning with general descriptive information in Chapters 1
through 8, the book advances to rather technical and specialized
chapters on performance mathematics, legal, accounting, market, and
other topics. Each chapter was written so that the reader needs little
prerequisite knowledge. Nevertheless, those readers with limited
knowledge of the hedge fund industry will find the book easier to understand
if the chapters are read in order.
The book should be valuable to anyone who wants in-depth
knowledge of hedge funds. Salespeople at broker-dealers can learn
much about the inside operation of a hedge fund and thereby provide
better coverage and effectively cross-sell other products. Lawyers, accountants,
and tax specialists can learn about their clients’ businesses
to help customize professional services to their clients’ needs. These
readers will be most interested in the less technical chapters (Chapters
1–7 and Chapter 16) and the one or two chapters addressing technical
material in the reader’s field. |
