Welcome to ChineseCSCW 2018, the 13th CCF Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing. ChineseCSCW 2018 was sponsored by the China Computer Federation (CCF), and co-organized by the Technical Committee on Cooperative Computing (TCCC) of CCF and Guilin University of Technology. The ChineseCSCW 2018 proceedings are published by Springer, which is a fantastic opportunity for the conference to attract worldwide attention and to connect global scholars in related fields.

ChineseCSCW (initially titled CCSCW) is a highly reputable conference series on computer supported cooperative work (CSCW) and social computing in China with a long history. It aims at bridging Chinese and overseas CSCW researchers, practitioners, and educators, with a particular focus on innovative models, theories, techniques, algorithms, and methods, as well as domain-specific applications and systems, from both technical and social aspects in CSCW and social computing. The conference was initially held biennially from 1998, and has been held annually since 2014.

ChineseCSCW 2018 received 150 submissions, and after a rigorous double-blind peer–review process, only 33 were accepted as full papers for oral presentation, resulting in an acceptance rate of 22%. The program also included 13 short papers, which were presented as posters. In addition, the conference featured four keynote speeches, eight technical seminars, and a special panel discussion on “Social Com puting and AI for Legal Affairs.” We are grateful to the keynote speakers, Prof. Tianyou Chai (member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering) from Northeastern University, Prof. Dajun Zeng from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Zhiwen Yu from Northwestern Polytechnic University, and Prof. Xiaofei Liao from Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

We hope that you enjoy ChineseCSCW 2018.

Joe Celko's Trees and Hierarchies in SQL for Smarties
Joe Celko's Trees and Hierarchies in SQL for Smarties
In my book SQL For Smarties 2nd edition (Morgan-Kaufmann, 2000),
I wrote a chapter on a programming technique for representing trees and
hierarchies in SQL as nested sets. This technique has become popular enough
that I have spent almost every month since SQL For Smarties was released
explaining the technique in Newsgroups and

Pro Microsoft Speech Server 2007: Developing Speech Enabled Applications with .NET
Microsoft Speech Server is becoming increasingly popular. There are three primary components developers wanting to develop speech applications need to be familiar with: the Speech SDK, Telephony, and ASP.NET server controls. Each of these can be used independently, but in many cases, all three need to be used to build truly compelling applications....

Vision & Voice: Refining Your Vision in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom (Voices That Matter)

What if your image could only communicate one thing: one major idea, overarching theme, or driving emotion? If you identified this, you’d discover your vision for that image—the internal, invisible guiding principle that directs both how you capture the image and how you develop it in the digital darkroom.
