| When Evangelical Christian and Muslim scholars meet to dialogue, to explore the interface between their perspectives, and to deepen the shared understandings, common resources, and relationships, they discover that they have much to talk about.
There is much that is shared in common. Both take their Scriptures seriously. Both care deeply about peacemaking. Both believe that it is God’s will that we work for justice for all. Both believe in the power of prayer.
And there are differences. True dialogue does not seek to avoid or to evade differences. On the contrary, it facilitates the discovery of meaningful differences. Openness to conversation and firmness in belief are both necessary to meaningful dialogue. Our differences make our conversations rich and surprising. Meeting, learning to know each other, increasing our shared resources for peace-building, coming to common understandings of effective peacemaking, and jointly acting or taking a stand against injustice are the most crucial tasks of this century. |
