| Geared toward advanced users of Reason, this book offers succinct chunks of guru-level advice - power techniques gleaned from the author's experience as a Reason power user. This new version 3 of Reason, Propellerhead's flagship music application, is used to emulate audio hardware such as samplers, analog synths, mixers, drum machines, effects and a real-time multi-track sequencer. The tips, presented in bite-size chunks, bring you to the next level and enable you to hone your skills on various functions within the application. Written to provide you with a resource that helps you along the way, this book gets you through a tip in a maximum of 2 pages. This guide will stay on your shelf and serve as a useful reference for whenever you are working within Reason.
This book is not a manual or a walk-through of the program. Rather, this is a quick-reference tips-and-tricks guide for the advanced user of Reason 3.0. It’s designed for fast use in case you’re wondering about advanced or alternative methods and techniques to control Reason 3.0. All the tips are divided by device type, music writing, mastering procedures, sound designing, or live setup. Any keyboard shortcuts you need to know in order to make certain tasks go faster are in Appendix A, “Reason 3.0 Key Commands (Shortcuts)” in the back of this book.
The tricks are laid before you in succinct, pithy chunks of bite-sized information, complete with bullet points and numbered steps, and accompanied by descriptive screenshots. Many times, the screenshots will be your quick visual guide to how a trick is performed. But as you know, you can’t explain everything by words and pictures. Every bit of information listed here has a concept behind it, which is briefly explained followed by an example of a possible setup for the tip or trick. This means that as long as you understand the concept, you can make your own parameter or cable settings within the guidelines, therefore using your creativity to modify the tip or trick. So even though the steps are laid before you, you must understand every idea presented in every sentence if you are to understand the concept of the tip or trick. If there is something you do not understand, refer back to the Reason manual for assistance, and then come back to this book.
