The LAMSADE1 was established in 1976 as a research laboratory jointly funded by Paris-Dauphine University and the CNRS (the French National Science Foundation) oriented to decision aiding, mainly in the areas of multiple criteria decision aiding and linear programming.

This book is an introduction to the fundamental concepts and tools needed for solving problems of a geometric nature using a computer. It attempts to fill the gap between standard geometry books, which are primarily theoretical, and applied books on computer graphics, computer vision, robotics, or machine learning.

Like virtual reality, augmented reality is becoming an emerging platform in new application areas for museums, edutainment, home entertainment, research, industry, and the art communities using novel approaches which have taken augmented reality beyond traditional eye-worn or hand-held displays.

Image processing is used in a wide variety of applications, for two somewhat different purposes:

1. improving the visual appearance of images to a human observer, including their printing and transmission, and

2. preparing images for the measurement of the features and structures which they reveal.
